What car is best for country driving?

Asked by Tracey

My daughter is looking to buy her first car. Where we live is countryish, outside of Beaudesert, Qld, so she has a 40 min drive on the highway to work, but then a gravel road of about 1 km. Also when it rains we often get flash flooding or water across the roads. What vehicle options under $20,000 would be best buy?

For starters you should tell her not to drive into floodwaters. I would suggest a small hatch, something like a Toyota Corolla, Mazda3, or Hyundai i30. All are reliable, economical, safe, and within your budget.
