What's a good green car to buy?

Asked by Keith

I would like to purchase an eco-friendly, but most importantly fuel-efficient VW Golf hatchback. I am looking closely at the MK 5 and MK 6. Please propose which one would be the very best for me in terms of fuel efficiency and existence of spare parts.

Your best option would be the 1.4-litre turbo manual in the Mk 6. It’s more fuel-efficient than the base 1.6-litre engine in the Mark 5, and being the newer model there are less likely to be any issues with getting spares for it.
