Asked by Jim Beresford
I AM 77 years old, have a new caravan and hope soon to become a grey nomad. I bought a 2003 Nissan Patrol 3.0-litre turbo diesel but have been having nightmares about busted cylinders somewhere on the Birdsville Track. Is there a date of manufacture when Nissan overcame this problem, or am I still in the firing line?

26 Jul 2007I CAN'T give you a definitive answer, but I can tell you Nissan is so concerned about all the negative publicity it has received over the 3.0-litre turbodiesel engine that it has agreed to sit down with Carsguide and give us a rundown on the problem so we can, hopefully, give you the answer you want. Stay tuned.
