Asked by Velan
I recently bought a 2013 Nissan X-Trail with the 2.5-litre petrol engine and CVT transmission. How often you should change the CVT oil? The 2.5-litre petrol engine seems to use more fuel than I expected, the fuel gauge goes down to empty quicker than my 1994 Toyota Camry 2.2-litre manual. Can the fuel consumption be reduced? Also when I had half a tank full the distance to empty showed 185 km. This does not seem correct due to a 65-litre fuel tank and if doing 10 L/100 km in the city should give 650 km driving distance on a full tank, or 325 km on half a tank. Is there an error in the fuel gauge system?

27 May 2016The CVT oil should be changed every 100,000km. As for the fuel consumption it's best to do a check yourself by measuring how much fuel it is actually using. Judging the consumption by how far the gauge falls is very inaccurate, and I wouldn't stake my life on the fuel consumption gauges in the car. Do an actual measurement and you will know exactly what the consumption is. Nissan claims an average of 9.1L/100km, 7.7L/100km on country driving, and 11.5L/100km on city use. I would expect your car would fall somewhere between 9.1 and 11.5L/100km.
