2017 BMW 4 Series range receives mild facelift

BMW has introduced a new 4 Series range – covering the Coupe, Gran Coupe and Convertible models – featuring styling and suspension updates, which will arrive in Australia early in the second half of this year.

The minimal new changes follow engine, equipment and pricing updates for the 4 Series from mid-2016.

This update debuts bi-LED headlights and tail-lights across the range, an upgrade over the former model's bi-xenon headlights.

Adaptive LED headlights are also offered as an option, but are standard on the M4 hero model, with LED fog lights a standard fixture for the entire range.

Redesigned air intakes and rear skirtline appear on the new models, whilst a front skirtline features on Luxury and Sport Line-optioned variants.

The 'Multifunctional Instrument Display' makes its debut across the updated 4 Series range.

Sunset Orange and Snapper Rocks Blue debut as two new paint colour options for the 4 Series range, whilst alloy wheel designs are unique to the specified Advantage, Luxury Line, Sport Line and M Sport packages.

The interior benefits from gloss black detailing, chrome applications and electroplated detailing on the centre console, double stitching on the instrument panel and the choice of three new wood trim finishes and upholstery colours.

The 'Multifunctional Instrument Display' makes its debut across the updated 4 Series range as an option – depending on the mode selected it offers the driver various designs and information on the digital instrument cluster.

The option list will also include 'Navigation system Professional' that offers a large tile-like control pad interface, which can be rearranged by the driver and will keep linked content constantly updated.

Coupe and Gran Coupe models feature a retuned suspension with improved lateral and longitudinal dynamics despite a stiffer set-up. These improvements also cover the optional Adaptive and M Sport suspension packages.

For the first time high-performance tyres will be offered as a factory option, but only on 430 variants and above.

BMW Australia is yet to determine which variants of the new 4 Series range will arrive in Australia, but an official announcement on specification and pricing is expected to closer to local release.

BMW sold 2397 examples of the 4 Series range in 2016, which was lower than the 2779 sales it managed in 2015.

Last year it was outsold by the Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe (2524) but topped the Audi A5/A5 Sportback (889), Lexus RC (518) and Porsche Cayman (285).
