2021 Ford Mustang Mach 1 pricing and specs detailed: New limited-edition Pony car comes track ready

The Mach 1 is the new flagship grade in Ford Australia’s Mustang range.

Just over a week after it confirmed the new Mustang Mach 1 for Australia, Ford has released pricing for the limited-edition Pony car.

When it officially enters Ford Australia showrooms early next year, 700 examples of the Mustang Mach 1 will be available, with each priced from $83,365 plus on-road costs no matter the transmission (six-speed manual or 10-speed torque-converter automatic).

As such, the Fastback coupe-only Mach 1 commands a $16,175-19,175 premium over the Mustang’s equivalent GT variants, although buyers are compensated for the extra spend with a track-focused package.

Sending drive to the Mach 1’s rear wheels is an upgraded version of the Mustang’s 5.0-litre naturally aspirated V8 petrol engine, with it punching out 345kW of power at 7500rpm and 556Nm of torque at 4600rpm, making it 6kW more powerful than – but just as torquey as – the GT.

Better yet, the Mach 1 has a limited-slip differential for better traction, while an active sports exhaust system with quad tailpipes is also fitted, ensuring owners won’t be missed when driving with intent, whether around corners or in a straight line.

Taking some of the best bits from Shelby’s GT350 and GT500, the Mach 1’s six-speed manual is a high-performance Tremec 3160 unit with rev-matching, while its 10-speed torque-converter automatic has a unique calibration. Both get an upgraded oil-cooler system.

As per its track focus, the Mach 1’s version of the Mustang’s MagneRide suspension is also bespoke, with tweaks extending to the dampers, springs, anti-roll bar and bushes.

The Mach 1 also stands out from the Mustang crowd with its specific body kit, stripes and 19-inch alloy wheels paying homage to its predecessors from the 1960s and 1970s while improving aerodynamics.

Five paintwork-stripes combinations are available for the Mach 1: Fighter Jet Gray with Satin Black/Reflective Orange, Shadow Black or Oxford White with Satin Black/Red, and Velocity Blue or Twister Orange with Satin Black/White stripes.

The former is exclusively offered as part of the Mach 1’s $1000 Appearance Pack, which also bundles in orange brake callipers and seat accents.

Inside, the Mach 1 shows out with Ebony leather upholstery with Metal Grey stitching, Dark Engine trim, a unique dashboard badge and bespoke scuff plates. Recaro front sports seats can replace the standard items for $3000.

Other equipment in the Mach 1 includes a 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system and heated and cooled front seats, although the latter is deleted with optional Recaro items.
