Ford Australia will add a Raptor X performance flagship to its high-selling Ranger 4x4 dual-cab pick-up line-up in July, but the new Toyota HiLux rival won’t arrive alone, with the FX4 grade to return at the same time.
Replacing the regular Raptor, the Raptor X is priced $1700 higher, at $79,390 plus on-road costs, although buyers are compensated for the extra spend with additional standard equipment.
The upgrades include red tow hooks, matte Asphalt Black alloy wheels, an extended sports bar, black ‘Ford’ tailgate badge and matte-black exterior trim (foglight bezel, grille, fender vent, side-mirror covers, wheel caps, door handles, tailgate handle and rear bumper cover).

But the key attraction is the Mustang-style Over The Top (OTT) body stripes (bonnet, roof, tailgate and sides), which have a matte-black carbon-twill texture and Searing Red keylines.
Inside, red stitching supersedes blue on the dashboard and steering wheel, while Hydrographic and Black Alley accents are used for the doors and dashboard.
Just like the regular Raptor, the Raptor X is motivated by a 157kW/500Nm 2.0-litre twin-turbo four-cylinder diesel engine and a 10-speed torque-converter automatic transmission.
Meanwhile, the FX4 grade is positioned between the XLT and FX4 Max grades, with it featuring an Ebony Black unique mesh grille, darkened bi-LED headlights, black 18-inch alloy wheels, red 3D-effect decals and a black extended sports bar.
Then there’s the Ebony Black exterior trim (side-mirror covers, fender vents and door handles), while front sports seats with red embossed ‘FX4’ logos, leather-accented upholstery and FX4-branded floor mats that feature inside.
Finally, Race Red stitching (dashboard, steering wheel, gear selector, handbrake, seats and doors), Tinted Graphic accents (dashboard and doors) and a soft-touch upper dashboard round the inclusions.
The FX4 grade’s 147kW/470Nm 3.2-litre single-turbo five-cylinder diesel unit is mated it to a six-speed manual ($59,990) or a six-torque-torque-converter automatic ($62,190). And it’s also available with the Raptor X’s engine-transmission combination for $63,690.
