2021 Ford Ranger Wildtrak X returns to give it to Toyota HiLux Rogue and Nissan Navara N-Trek

The 2021 Ranger Wildtrak X looks different from before thanks to a unique grille.

Ford’s Ranger Wildtrak X will return in early 2021 with extra equipment and visual enhancements, but also a higher pricetag kicking off from $66,490 before on-road costs.

The cheapest Wildtrak X is powered by a 3.2-litre turbo-diesel five-cylinder engine, producing 147kW/470Nm, and is paired exclusively with a six-speed automatic transmission, meaning it is $2200 pricier than its donor car.

Buyers can also opt for a Wildtrak X with the Ranger Raptor’s 157kW/500Nm 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel and 10-speed auto for $67,990, also making it $2200 more expensive than its Wildtrak equivalent.

Compared to the 2020 Wildtrak X, the 2021 versions are up $200 in price.

However, the 2021 Wildtrak X wears more visual flair to stand itself apart from the rest of the Ranger line-up, as well as the current model.

Up front Ford has added ‘Saber’-coloured inserts into the front grille (as well as the sports bar), while the 2021 Wildtrak X also loses the snorkel found in the current model for a more streamlined look.

Other additions over the Wildtrak include a black nudge bar with LED light bar, bespoke 18-inch wheels, blacked-out side steps, illuminated scuff plates and unique interior accent colouring.

The Wildtrak X’s wheelarch flares, sail plane, roof rails, front grille, head- and foglight surrounds, door and tailgate handles, and mirror caps are also finished in a glossy ‘Ebony Black’ instead of ‘Bolder Grey’ for added differentiation.

As before, the 2021 Wildtrak X is also fitted with a powered roller shutter and 8.0-inch Sync3 multimedia touchscreen with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto support.

Safety systems run the gamut and includes autonomous emergency braking (AEB) with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, hill-start assist, tyre pressure monitoring and park assist.

The brand’s FordPass Connect modem is also fitted, enabling remote vehicle access from a smartphone app.

Like all new Ford models, the Ranger Wildtrak X comes with a five-year/unlimited kilometre warranty, while each 12 month/15,000km warranty capped at $299 for the first four years.
