Porsche will celebrate a quarter century of the Boxster convertible with the creatively named 25 Years special edition that is limited to just 1250 units worldwide.
Australia’s allocation is yet to be revealed, but locally the car starts from $183,900 before on-road costs with deliveries beginning in April.
Based on the GTS 4.0, the Boxster 25 Years is $9100 more expensive than the manual donor car, but an automatic version will also be made available for an undisclosed price.
If, however, Porsche follows the GTS 4.0’s pricing structure, the automatic 25 Years should be priced around $189,890.
For the extra spend, buyers are treated to unique 20-inch alloy wheels finished in a gold colour Porsche calls ‘Neodyme’, which also finds its way to the front bumper and side air intakes.
Three exterior colours are on offer with the 25 Years – ‘GT Silver Metallic’, ‘Deep Black Metallic’ and ‘Carrara White Metallic’ – to contrast the ‘Neodyme’ highlights.
Also differentiating the 25 Years is a black windscreen surround, and high-gloss tailpipes and fuel filler cap.
Of course, it wouldn’t be a special-edition grade if it didn’t have variant-specific badging too, which can be found on the alongside the ‘Boxster’ lettering in the rear.
In a homage to the original Boxster, the 25 Years also comes with a leather interior and roof finished in red, though less flamboyant buyers can opt for black.
Standard gear includes aluminium interior inserts, 14-way power adjustable sports seats, Boxster 25-branded door sills, heated leather steering wheel and seats, auto-dimming mirrors, dual-zone climate control, digital radio, keyless entry, push-button start, and automatic wipers.
On the safety front the 25 Years scores lane change assist, cruise control, front and rear parking sensors, and a revering camera.
Mechanically, the 25 Years features the same 4.0-litre six-cylinder petrol engine as the GTS 4.0, which outputs 294kW/420Nm when paired with a six-speed manual gearbox.
Opting for a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic bumps power up to 309kW, at least in the Boxster GTS 4.0.
Top speed in the Boxster 25 Years is 293km/h, while the zero-to-100km/h acceleration run can be dispatched in as little as 4.0 seconds when optioned with the auto transmission and Porsche’s Sport Chrono pack.
Porsche’s Active Suspension Management (PASM) system is also fitted to the Boxster 25 Years as standard, lowering the ride height by 10mm, while a torque vectoring system and limited-slip differential are also feature at no extra cost.
