Toyota Australia will see out the current 200 Series LandCruiser with the limited-run Sahara Horizon grade, which can be differentiated by a number of exterior and interior tweaks.
Buyers will be paying an extra for the changes though, as the Sahara Horizon is priced at $131,896 before on-road costs, making it $7500 more expensive than the LandCruiser 200 Sahara upon which it is based.
However, only 400 examples of the Sahara Horizon will be available from March 2021.
Powering the Sahara Horizon is a 4.5-litre turbo-diesel V8, producing 200kW/650Nm, and could be one of the last chances to get an eight-cylinder LandCruiser as rumours point to a downsized engine in the upcoming 300 Series SUVs.
Drive is sent to a full-time four-wheel-drive system via a six-speed automatic transmission, while a set of low-range ratios and a terrain-selector are also available to traverse rough surfaces.
The Sahara Horizon also wears a unique front fascia thanks to a darkened front grille, black headlight surrounds and smoked-chrome foglights, as well as variant-specific badging on the rear.
Step inside, and buyers will be treated to a heated leather-accented steering wheel, darkened headliner, black and chrome interior trim, and contrast stitching on the doors and seats.
The final touch however, are illuminated front and rear puddle lamps that project the LandCruiser logo.
These changes are on top of the standard equipment found in the regular Sahara, including heated and cooled front seats with power adjustability, four-zone climate control, keyless entry, push-button start, 9.0-inch multimedia touchscreen, premium sound system, satellite navigation, and rear-seat DVD player.
Safety systems are also well represented on the LandCruiser Sahara Horizon with the inclusion of autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, reversing camera, front and rear parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert.
Toyota Australia vice-president of sales and marketing Sean Hanley said the LandCruiser Sahara Horizon is suited for both on- and off-road duties thanks to its equipment additions.
“As Australia’s best-selling upper-large SUV, there is no shortage of LandCruisers out there and the new Horizon special edition offers customers an enhanced visually distinctive appeal,” he said.
“With its bespoke styling and premium ambience, the Horizon special edition is equally at home for an elegant night out in the city as it is crossing the Simpson desert.”
