2021 Volkswagen Caddy pricing and specs detailed: Renault Kangoo and Peugeot Partner-rivalling van to land locally from July

Volkswagen’s new-generation Caddy light-commercial van will hit Australian showrooms in July with prices creeping up due to a new design, improved safety and updated technology.

Seven variants split across two wheelbases (SWB and Maxi) are available from launch, with the new Caddy line-up kicking off at $34,990 before on-road costs for the Cargo TDI280 manual variant.

The Caddy Cargo TDI320 meanwhile, ups pricing to $37,990, but also adds a seven-speed ‘DSG’ dual-clutch automatic transmission.

The Maxi versions of each meanwhile, are priced at $36,990 and $39,990 respectively.

Now built on VW’s ubiquitous MQB platform (which also underpins the VW Golf, Skoda Octavia and Audi A3), the 2021 Caddy is fitted with more advanced driver safety features than before, including autonomous emergency braking (AEB), driver attention alert and a reversing camera with rear parking sensors.

For the Cargo line-up, standard equipment includes automatic headlights, electronic parking brake, LED interior lighting, multi-function driver display, leather wrapped steering wheel, two USB C ports and an 8.25-inch multimedia touchscreen.

All Caddy Cargo variant make use of a turbo-diesel engine, with the six-speed manual-equipped models outputting 75kW/280Nm, while the DSG-fitted variants have outputs upped to 90kW/320Nm.

For those after a people mover, the Maxi TDI320 and Life Maxi TDI320 are on offer $45,490 and $49,990 respectively, both fitted with a seven-speed DSG.

Moving to the Caddy Maxi TDI320, equipment includes seating for seven, lane-keep assist, AEB with pedestrian and cyclist detection, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert/

The Life Maxi TDI320 meanwhile, adds unique seat finishes, a digital instrument panel, dual-zone climate control, push-button start, rain-sensing wipers, 17-inch wheels, automatic headlights, adaptive cruise control and front parking sensors.

Only the 90kW/320Nm diesel engine is available in the Caddy people mover line-up.

Finally, the California Maxi sits at the top of the new Caddy tree for $54,990 and scores gloss-black 17-inch wheels, dual-zone climate control, a foldable bed, window covers, LED tail-lights and a foldable table with chairs.

Like all new Volkswagen Commercial vehicles sold in Australia, the Caddy comes with a five-year/unlimited kilometre warranty.

The Caddy van will compete against the Renault Kangoo and Pegeuot Partner, while people mover version could be cross-shopped against the likes of the LDV G10 and Hyundai iMax.

For reference, the 2020 Caddy line-up opened at $31,290 for the petrol-powered TSI220, and extended to $37,240 for the Maxi TDI250 Crewman.
