2022 Isuzu MU-X accessories detailed: New Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, Ford Everest and Toyota Fortuner rival set for adventure-ready overhaul

The new Isuzu MU-X can be fitted out with numerous purpose-built adventure extras.

It’s time for anyone interested in a new Isuzu MU-X to get ready for adventure – and perhaps sell a kidney to help pay for it – because the new-generation seven-seat SUV is about to receive the full-blown treatment from Australia’s aftermarket industry giants.

That’s not to say that you should ignore the stack of genuine accessories available through Isuzu, which include everything from rubber mats, electric brake controllers and towing mirrors, through to nudge bars, bull bars, snorkels, tow bar kits and awnings.

But, as always, Aussie companies such as ARB are gearing up to unleash a mammoth volume of action-ready aftermarket products on the MU-X if past product line-ups are anything to go by, especially those for 2017-2020 MU-X variants.

The new MU-X, available from August 2, stands to benefit with all manner of adventure-ready vehicle-based products, from frontal protection (bull bars, nudge bars etc), side rails and side steps, roof-based storage options (roof racks, platforms etc), and suspension upgrades, through to driving lights, snorkels, winches, under-vehicle protection, UHF radios, fuel tanks and much more.

Aftermarket companies are poised ready to pounce on the new MU-X as soon as they can.

ARB’s Shannon Alderwick said: “We haven’t yet had access to a vehicle, so as soon as we get our hands on one, we’ll have a look at it and see what we need to create and what is able to be carried over from the previous model or partner platform models.

“When a brand-new vehicle is released, we would generally scan the vehicle, and begin designing and engineering products as required.

“We have a team of engineers that begin work on their individual products. The greatest amount of care is taken to ensure correct fitment and usability of products to enhance the vehicle in a safe manner, which are then rigorously tested and approved for release.

“Generally, we start with a plan based on the previous-generation model. Depending on the most popular use of that model and what initial reviews of the new vehicle are saying, it's generally a good indication on popularity and likelihood of use of the new model. This then starts the basis for planning whether a vehicle will have a heavy 4WD focus, touring, towing etc.”

When it comes to loading up your new MU-X with genuine Isuzu accessories or aftermarket-sourced gear, it seems that you’re really only limited by how huge your wallet is and how much you’re willing to ‘eat into’ the MU-X’s GVM (gross vehicle mass) as you bolt on gear to it. Read one of our yarns on this tricky topic to make sure you stay legal and, more importantly, safe when travelling in your loaded vehicle.
