Suzuki is reportedly preparing to turbocharge and electrify the in-demand Jimny off-roader, but the light SUV’s new five-door body-style is still a while away.
According to MOTA, the five-door Jimny will be called Long, which is apt when you consider it will be the long-wheelbase version of the current three-door body-style.
As reported, the Jimny Long is set to have a 2550mm wheelbase (+300mm), which would extend its overall length to a still-diminutive 3850mm. Width and height are expected to unchanged, at 1645mm and 1730mm respectively.

But the real story here is what MOTA claims will be under the bonnet: a turbocharged engine a mild-hybrid system. Before now, the Jimny Long was expected to share the three-door body-style’s 75kW/130Nm 1.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine.
Why the alleged change? Well, a turbocharger would help compensate for the Jimny Long’s obvious weight gained over the three-door body-style, while a mild-hybrid system would help improve its fuel efficiency.
That said, there is some bad news: MOTA says the Jimny Long will no longer be revealed this year. In fact, it might not even debut in 2022, as Suzuki is still struggling to meet demand for the three-door body-style, which been hot property since its launch in mid-2018.
Needless to say, time will tell what happens with the Jimny Long, so stay tuned. In the meantime, the three-door body-style is priced between $28,490 and $29,990 plus on-road costs.
