Chevrolet has let Corvette fans know how much longer they’ll have to wait to see the new C8 Z06 supercar, which is all but confirmed for Australia, 460kW V8 and all.
The eagerly anticipated C8 Z06 will be revealed in the US on October 26 (local time), so Corvette fans – both in Australia and abroad – have just over two more months to go before the big debut goes down.
In fact, locals have a lot to look forward to, with General Motors Speciality Vehicles (GMSV) filing an Australian trademark application in July for the famous Z06 nameplate, pointing to the new model joining GMSV’s C8 Corvette range as early as late 2022, with it currently led by the Stingray.

As Holden and HSV’s successor in Australia, GMSV is responsible for delivering factory right-hand-drive versions of the C8 Corvette locally, with the first batch of Stingray coupes and convertibles due in the fourth quarter of this year, priced from $144,990 to $189,990 plus on-road costs.
As far as the new Z06 is concerned, though, it’s widely expected to be headlined by a mid-mounted, racecar-sourced 5.5-litre naturally aspirated V8 with a flatplane crankshaft, which enables it to be high-revving, all the way to a rumoured 9000rpm redline.
Reports suggest the engine in question will punch out 460kW of power and 651Nm of torque, putting plenty of space between it and the Stingray’s 370kW/640Nm 6.2-litre atmo V8 with a crossplane crankshaft.
In the Z06, a Tremec-sourced eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission is expected to send drive to the rear wheels, with the same combination used by the Stingray.
The new Z06 teasers released by Chevrolet to coincide with its latest announcement shows that the model will take the C8 Corvette to the next level with a more aggressive front end – including a prominent splitter – while a large wing spoiler will also be in tow alongside centrally mounted quad exhaust tailpipes.
