The third model in Mazda’s plainly named Large Product Group, its series of SUVs aiming to push the brand further upmarket, has been officially revealed as the CX-70 makes its global debut.
The 2024 Mazda CX-70, a wider and slightly differently designed sibling to the existing CX-60SUV, will launch alongside the existing ‘60’ and CX-90 SUVs in Australia to bring the local total to three out of four Large Product Group SUVs, the other being the unconfirmed CX-80.
Further differentiating the CX-70 from the narrower CX-60 is its drivetrain selection, which mirrors the larger three-row CX-90.
This means rather than a choice of three drivetrains including a plug-in hybrid assisted four-cylinder petrol engine, the CX-70 will come with a choice of Mazda’s two 3.3-litreturbocharged inline six-cylinder engines, assisted by 48-volt electrification.
The petrol-powered version of the 3.3-litre engine is more powerful in the CX-90 than it is in the CX-60, making 254kW instead of 209kW, while having 50Nm more torque for a total 500Nm. The diesel version makes 187kW and 550Nm in both.
Debuting in the CX-70 as a feature new to Mazda is an electric folding second row, operated via a switch in the boot.

Mazda’s Cruising and Traffic Support (CTS) emergency stop assist function is also featured in the CX-70, another first for the brand, which can alert the driver “in stages” if it detects driver drowsiness or distraction.
“If the driver is still not confirmed to be engaged, the system will slow the vehicle down and stop where necessary to reduce damage in the event of an accident.”
More specific details are yet to be announced, however the brand has confirmed the CX-70 will boast a 2500kg towing capacity “to support active lifestyles”.
Vinesh Bhindi, Managing Director of Mazda Australia, says the CX-70 furthers the march of the ‘Mazda Premium philosophy’ after the ‘60’ and ‘90’.
More specific details of the CX-70 are yet to be announced.
“As we continue to advance our product range with a host of cutting-edge products, the Mazda CX-70 represents yet another milestone for our brand – offering the hallmarks of the now well-established Mazda Premium philosophy that shines brightly in the CX-60 and CX-90, but with a distinct focus on pursuing an active and fulfilling lifestyle.
“The CX-70 is a unique expression of our customers’ interests and stands out on its own as a highly compelling option, facilitating new life experiences and rewarding those wanting to experience the joy of driving. It also offers a wider breadth of choice within our Large Product range, skilfully meeting the diverse needs of our market.”
Australian pricing and specification for the CX-70 is yet to be confirmed, but is expected to be announced closer to the SUV’s launch.
