2025 Audi Q2 upgrade: Compact SUV scores new multimedia and improved safety in final refresh for BMW X1, Lexus UX, Mercedes-GLA and Volvo XC40 rival

It may be set for retirement at the end of this year, but Audi isn’t allowing its Q2 compact SUV to fall off the pace, announcing the addition of a new touchscreen-based multimedia system and the brand’s configurable ‘Virtual Cockpit’ instrument display to the city-sized five-seater’s standard features list.

While the path of least resistance might be letting the Q2 soldier on as is until it’s retired at the end of 2023, to its credit, Audi has kept its foot on the accelerator adding what it describes as a “comprehensive technology update” to the model line-up.

"Effective immediately", the Q2 will feature a hi-res 8.8-inch touchscreen (up from 7.0-inch non-touch) controlling the multimedia system, a big ergonomic step up from the current rotary/push-button set-up. A storage compartment slots into the console where the ‘MMI’ dial was previously located.

Radio is upgraded to include digital reception, two data-capable USB-C ports replace the previous USB-A in the front centre console.

As well as touch control, the system features ‘natural speech’ recognition, enabling “instant responses to complex commands or questions”.

At the same time, Audi’s 12.3-inch Virtual Cockpit digital instrument screen (replacing traditional dials) and a three-spoke multifunction steering wheel are added. 

As in other current Audi models, the digital system is built around a customisable HD display including speed, RPM, navigation, media information and more.

A ‘view’ button on the steering wheel lets the driver toggle between different layouts, available options including ‘Sport’ (with red accents) and ‘Dynamic’ (with rescaled dials and read-outs).

Additional active safety tech including traffic sign recognition, lane departure warning and rear park assist are also now standard.

In Europe the car will be launched in the first half of 2024 with Australian production still sourced from Audi’s main plant in Ingolstadt.
