Audi A4 2019 update revealed

Audi has revealed an update of its A4 mid-size sedan with tweaked styling, mild hybrid tech and a V6 turbo-diesel engine option for the S4.

The new A4 scores a refreshed front grille (to match the incoming A1) newly-designed headlight clusters with LED as standard, a 10.1-inch multimedia touch display as standard across the range (up from the current A4’s 7.0- or 8.3-inch screens which are controlled via rotary dial), built-in network connectivity (to support Audi’s car-to-infrastructure technology), as well as a newly-added head-up display.

The regular A4 range will also get 12-volt mild-hybrid technology which is in place to save fuel where it can (and allow Audi to get its fleet under Euro 6d emissions requirements). It allows the car to shut off the engine early and start it later, for fuel savings of around 0.3L/100km.

Along with a mild facelift, the S4 will also get a slew of updates including a 40v mild hybrid system.

In Europe the S4 will also have a new TDI 3.0-litre V6 turbo-diesel variant which features a 48-volt mild-hybrid system supported by a lithium-ion battery cell under the boot floor (as seen in the Q8) which allows the car to shut the engine down and coast on battery power alone. Audi says this system can save the TDI variant up to 0.4L/100km.

Australians may be waiting some time for the 48v mild-hybrid tech in their A4, as the V6 TDI variant has previously been flagged as unlikely for our market.

The Allroad Quattro lifted wagon A4 variant has also received a mild (but unique) styling update and multimedia features.

The Allroad Quattro gets its own look as part of the update.

The A4 range update is ready to order from this month in Europe, and Audi has been approached for comment on launch timing for the Australian market.
