Are you ready for an all-electric off-roader from Audi?
The Germany luxury brand has teased the fourth installment in its concept series that has been designed to showcase its future with electric powertrains and autonomous technology. The AI: Trail quattro concept has been teased, showing off a compact-looking EV with large off-road tyres at each corner.
From what can be seen in the shadowy teaser image, it appears to be a boxy looking machine, with very short front and rear overhangs; suggesting it could share the same underpinnings as the Volkswagen I.D. Buggy concept.
The quattro name makes it clear it will be all-wheel drive while the sizeable rubber suggest it has been designed to at least give the impression of being seriously off-road capable. However, don’t expect Audi to offer a rival to the Land Rover Defender anytime soon, with the AI: Trail likely just previewing the electrification of the brand’s next generation SUVs.
The AI: Trail quattro is the fourth in a family of concept cars the four-ring brand has unveiled over the last two years.
The Aircon was first, featuring Level 5 autonomous technology without a steering wheel or pedals and was revealed at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show. The PB18 e-tron concept was next, unveiled at Pebble Beach 2018 to show off a potential electric replacement for the R8 supercar.
All four concepts will be on display at the Frankfurt show.
