Audi RS Q3 2020 confirmed: More power, two body styles for hi-po small SUV

Audi has revealed its new-generation Q3 RS small SUV, which will be available for the first time in coupe-style Sportback guise when the range hits local showrooms in Q2, 2020.

The fresh design is headlined by a new grille, flared wheel arches, roof spoiler as well as an RS-specific rear bumper and diffuser.

Also new is a dual-branch exhaust system with large oval tailpipes with chrome trim pieces.

Outputs have been raised by 17 per cent for the new model, delivering 294kW of power and 480Nm of torque – up 24kW/15Nm compared to the outgoing Q3 RS Performance.

Both the Q3 RS and Q3 RS Sportback will be available in Australia in the second quarter of next year.

Under the bonnet sits the same 2.5-litre five-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, though it has undergone significant changes to reduce weight and internal friction, and improve cooling.

Power is filtered through a seven-speed automatic transmission, and sent to all four wheels through a Quattro all-wheel-drive system which can intelligently distribute torque between the axles.

The standard RS suspension lowers the vehicle by 10 millimetres compared to the standard Q3, and unique progressive steering provides sportier dynamics.

Audi will offer various wheel designs, measuring 20- or 21-inches in diameter, showcasing all-new six-piston steel brakes with ventilated discs.

The Audi virtual cockpit features RS-specific software to display performance data like lap times and acceleration information.

Ceramic brake and adaptive suspension systems can be included as an option.

Inside, a large touchscreen display takes up multimedia duties, while a virtual instrument cluster provides information on tyre pressure, torque, power, output, lap times, g-forces and acceleration measurements.

The cabin is upholstered in black leather and Alcantara, with two design packages which add red or blue contrast throughout.

Entry lighting welcomes the driver and front passenger, and RS logos adorn the flat-bottomed sports steering wheel with newly designed shift paddles.

The five-seater offers 530 litres of storage, or up to 1525 with the rear seats folded down. Due to its sloping roof line, the Sportback offers a maximum of 1400 litres.
