BMW reveals ultra-limited M5 Edition 35 Years

BMW’s M division has announced an ultra-limited edition M5 sedan to celebrate 35 years of the high-performance 5 Series. Only 350 units are set to be produced.

The M5 Edition 35 Years will boast “the most powerful engine in the model’s history” under the bonnet, a tweaked version of the regular M5’s 4.4-litre V8 boosted to 460kW/750Nm (up 19kW).

No word yet on whether this edition will make it to Australia.

BMW says the M5 Edition 35 Years will be capable of the 0-100km/h sprint in 3.3 seconds, with a 0-200km/h time of 10.8 seconds.

Naturally each car will have BMW’s xDrive all-wheel drive system (which in the M5 is able to be switched to rear-drive) and will have an active rear differential.

All 350 units will be in their own ‘Frozen Dark Grey Metallic II’ paint, with bespoke 20-inch M alloy wheels. The brake calipers will be painted black unless optioned with the carbon ceramic brake option, in which case they will be painted gold.

The Edition 35 Years will be finished in beige/black leather 'Marino' trim from BMW’s ‘Individual’ options range, and the interior features panel trim finished in gold-anodized carbon-structured aluminium. The cupholder cover will feature the cars build number out of 350.

The M5 Edition 35 Years is a homage to the first BMW M5 (E28), a straight-six powered super-saloon which inherited its engine from the M1 supercar from October 1984. The original car produced 210kW/340Nm from its naturally aspirated 3.5-litre engine.

BMW Australia has been contacted for comment on whether there’s a chance Australia will be allocated any of the 350 cars.
