Cheap electric car gets big $2000 price cut! Some of Australia's cheapest EVs score price cuts as GWM Ora fends off MG ZS EV and BYD Dolphin for title

GWM Ora

One of Australia’s cheapest electric cars just became a little more competitive in the pricing game, with the GWM Ora’s line-up slimmed and pricing altered to suit.

The GWM Ora Standard Range recently lost its crown as Australia's cheapest EV to the MG ZS EV Excite, but it remains competitive priced at $35,990 drive-away.

Now the long range variant gets a generous price cut, too.

The Ora Extended Range now starts at $36,990 down from $38,990 and boosts driving range to 420km instead of the Standard Range's 310km claim.

Not too long ago it was a $40,990 offering, meaning it’s had thousands shaved from its price to now sit at just $1000 more than the Standard Range.

The two share similar specifications aside from a 63kWh battery replacing the Standard’s smaller 48kWh battery for longer range. The higher-spec Ultra has been discontinued with the top-spec Ora GT the only way to score more features.

The GT has also been subject to a price drop, however, perhaps to close the gap previously filled by the Ultra.

Retaining the 63kWh battery, but with a shorter 400km driving range, the GT is now $1000 less at $43,990. This is also $3000 less than the GT cost just months ago.

The three-variant range retains its technical specifications. The GWM Ora is a front-wheel drive, single-motor electric car with outputs of 126kW and 250Nm, able to be charged from 10 to 80 per cent battery in either a claimed 41 or 50 minutes for Standard or Extended/GT range respectively.

The Ora’s closest competition in the EV pricing game is the $38,890 (before on-roads) BYD Dolphin Dynamic, followed by the MG4 Excite with a 51kWh battery at $39,990 drive-away.
