Cheap Jeep EV! Tesla Model Y and Kia Niro on notice as 2024 Jeep Avenger electric car promises value pricing


Jeep Australia's first all-electric model, the Avenger, will land in local showrooms toward the end of 2024, and CarsGuide understands it will be very competitively priced against rivals.

Expect a circa-$60,000 before on-road costs starting price for the all-electric Avenger small SUV, which will put it right in contention with the Tesla Model Y ($65,400), Kia Niro S Electric ($66,590), Volvo EX30 ($59,990), incoming Hyundai Kona EV and Jeep's mechanically related cousin, the Peugeot e-2008 ($59,990).

As a reminder, the Avenger is equipped with a single electric motor driving the front axle that produces 115kW/260Nm.

It also has a 54kWh battery for a WLTP-certified range of 400km – though this range is still to be confirmed for Australian vehicles – while also featuring 100kW DC fast charging.

By comparison, the Peugeot e-2008 that launched recently shares the same eCMP platform as the Avenger, but features only a 100kW/260Nm output, while its 50kWh battery serves up a 328km driving range in Australia.

Jeep is targeting young couples and buyers looking to downsize with the Avenger, and is spruiking the model's capacious interior housed within a small footprint.

The Avenger sits firmly in the small SUV class - the first time Jeep has fielded a competitor in that market since the discontinuation of the Renegade in early 2020 - and measures 4084mm long, 1776mm wide, 1528mm tall and has a 2560mm wheelbase.

Jeep also wants the Avenger to carry on the brand's 'go anywhere' attitude despite being a front-drive EV, and, to help navigate trickier terrain, has included six driving modes including Snow, Mud and Sand settings, as well as hill descent control.

The Avenger also continues the Jeep theme of peppering Easter Eggs throughout the car, including placing the brand's seven-slot grille on the face of each of the four wheels, embossing the model's design journey onto the inside of the tailgate and having a star-gazing child on the windscreen decal.

As a quirky detail, the indicator sound is also a drumbeat in the Avenger.
