After a fairly successful relaunch in Australia during 2023, the Chery brand is introducing two new variants of its first model (this time around), the Omoda 5 SUV.
The new grades for the Chery Omoda 5 SUV range coincide with a 2024 model year price adjustment, which sees the existing variants of the small SUV receive a price bump as well as some new features.
Joined by a new duo of GT variants powered by a 1.6-litre engine with more power and an AWD option, the already existing base-model Omoda 5 BX will start from $34,490 drive-away in its MY24 update, a $1500 increase over Chery’s quoted drive-away price for the current version.

The slightly higher specification ‘EX’, which comes with higher grade interior materials and red exterior accents, will be $1000 more expensive at $36,990 drive away.
Both existing variants retain their 108kW and 210Nm outputs from their 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engines - mated to a continuously variable auto transmission, or CVT.
The new GT variants, however, come with a slightly larger 1.6-litre four-cylinder engine, mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and making 137kW and 275Nm.
The front-drive GT variant starts from $38,990 drive-away, while the all-wheel drive version costs $41,490.
New for the Omoda 5 range in the MY24 models is digital radio, a frameless rear-view mirror and an upgraded 50W wireless phone charger.
The updated FWD versions are available from mid-January, while the AWD GT variant arrives in February.
In 2023, Chery sold 5370 units of the Omoda 5, not a bad figure for a debut year in the competitive small SUV segment where the likes of the Mitsubishi ASX shifted in numbers of 9176 and the more premium-bent Mazda CX-30 at 13,115.
