Wayne Griffiths, Cupra CEO, has previously confirmed the timing for the production Tavascan during the company’s 2021 annual press conference, saying the brand’s second dedicated EV will arrive next year.
“Our dream will come true: the Cupra Tavascan will be a reality,” he confirmed.
“Based on the MEB platform of the Volkswagen Group, it will be designed and developed in Barcelona and will reach Europe and overseas markets in 2024.”
Given it’ll be built on the MEB platform like the VW ID.5, and that the VW’s specifications line up approximately with these figures, that information likely still stands.
Also in the teaser video were the Cupra Born, Formentor, some of its brand ambassadors, and the mid-size Terramar SUV expected to also make its way to Australia.
The Tavascan has made a somewhat dramatic appearance in a new video.
On the collaboration with Rosalia, COO of Cupra, Sven Schuwirth, says the brand chose to work with the singer due to both being ‘rising stars’ from the same part of the world.
“Just like Cupra, Rosalia was born in Barcelona, in fact only four kilometres away from our HQ.
“Similarly, both Cupra and the artist share an international mindset and appeal, acting as cultural landmarks for individuals and new generations who look for the unconventional aspects of life.”
