Devilish! New Lamborghini Urus S makes 666 horsepower and gets more features

The Lamborghini Urus is now a two-model range with the S topped by the Performante.

The most successful model in the history of Lamborghini, in terms of sales at least, has a new entry-level grade, and it’s borrowed more power from its range-topping sibling.

The 2023 Lamborghini Urus S, replacing the ‘standard’ version as the only Urus model sitting below the hardcore Performante variant, has copped an update with more power. In fact, it now shares outputs with the higher-spec version.

This means 490kW (or a hellish 666hp) and 850Nm from its twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8, allowing it to hit 100km/h from a standstill in 3.5 seconds. That’s proper supercar territory, not far behind its Huracan stablemate.

On top of that, 200km/h arrives in 12.5 seconds, Lamborghini claims. Not bad for 2197kg or so of metal and leather.

The Urus S also gets a new exhaust system with “sharper” notes in each of its drive modes. Strada, Sport, Corsa, are the road-going modes in increasing intensity, while off-road modes Terra, Neve, and Sabbia are for land, sand, and snow respectively. A customisable Ego mode also features.

Not limited to performance upgrades, the Urus S also gains a slew of styling and customisation options. A new “more refined” front bumper and an “elegant” rear bumper both feature matt black highlights and, at the rear, frame a new twin-exit brushed steel exhaust.

A new design for the carbon-fibre bonnet features vents able to be highlighted in the body colour, while the roof is able to be had in a visible carbon-fibre finish.

Inside, trim and colour has been given a refresh with either two-tone Sportivo or Sophisticated options dictating whether the cabin has a sporting or more style-leaning look.

In Australia, the base Urus began from $390,000 before on-road costs, while the new Urus S that replaces it will start from $409,744. Local deliveries are expected to start in the second half of 2023.

The new Urus S comes as Lamborghini announced it has surpassed 20,000 Uruses produced, according to Stephan Winkelmann.

"The Urus S sits perfectly alongside the new Urus Performante, for those choosing the purest sublimation of performance, luxury and versatility,” said Mr Winkelmann.

“The Urus’ commercial success, with more than 20,000 vehicles produced, is testament to its credentials as the first and enduring Super SUV: the Urus S elevates that reputation.”
