Hi-po electric Kombi! 2025 Volkswagen ID. Buzz GTX revealed ahead of Australian arrival where it will take on the Mercedes-Benz EQV and LDV Mifa9

The high-performance version of Volkswagen’s retro-inspired electric Kombi, the I.D Buzz GTX, has been revealed in Europe ahead of its Australian arrival in 2025.

Distinguished by its sporty styling that includes a black honeycomb lower grille, gloss black wing mirrors and 20-inch Solna alloy wheels, the GTX is a more powerful version of Volkswagen’s fully electric ID. Buzz van.

Two electric motors will provide all-wheel drive, with buyers offered a choice between a standard size battery and a longer-range version.

Inside, the ID. Buzz GTX gains a sporty interior incorporating dark materials with red stitching and flexible seating.   

The ID. Buzz will launch in Europe with a choice of two wheelbase sizes. The normal wheelbase is for the five-seater version of the van, while the long wheelbase can be configured to seat six or seven people across three rows. 

With five seats in use the short-wheelbase version will offer 1121 litres of boot space, while the longer wheelbase has a cargo capacity of 1340 litres behind the third-row seats.

Cabin tech includes a 12.9-inch touchscreen and features a voice command system using ChatGPT AI for many of the vehicle’s functions.

The ID. Buzz GTX is distinguished by its sporty styling.

Sitting at the top of the ID.Buzz range, the GTX will gain standard features of the grades below. This includes LED headlights and tail-lights, power tailgate, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless phone charging, heated front seats and climate control.

The regular ID.Buzz has been on sale in the United Kingdom since 2022, but it will arrive in Australia before the end of 2024 along with the ‘tradie-spec’ ID. Cargo. As for the ID.Buzz GTX, CarsGuide asked if it was coming to Australia and, if so, when?

It’s too early for Australian pricing to be announced but in the UK the line-up’s entry price converts to about A$115,000.

The arrival of the ID.Buzz and GTX in Australia comes as Volkswagen begins its roll out of electric vehicles here, the first of which will be the ID.4 and ID.5 SUVs in July.

Both the ID.4 and ID.5 are essentially twins with the latter being a more coupe-like version of the other, but both are designed to take on Tesla’s Model Y.
