The Toyota HiLux remains Australia's favourite ute (and vehicle, for that matter) sweeping aside newer rivals like the Ford Ranger and Isuzu D-Max in the dual-cab sales race.
The 2022 sales results were genuinely wild for Toyota, which - in a year marked by stock shortages and delivery delays - managed to increase HiLux sales by almost 22 percent 64,391, making it not just Australia's favourite ute, but also the country's favourite vehicle overall.
The Ford Ranger finished second, with 47,479 sales - making it the country's second most popular vehicle - while the Mitsubishi Triton finished third, with 27,436 sales (fourth most popular vehicle overall). Next came the Isuzu D-Max, with 24,336 total sales.

What makes Toyota's result even more impressive is the fact that, while Ford and Isuzu have both introduced hugely impressive new models in recent years, the HiLux is still within the generation that first launched in Australia in 2015.
Will the ever-green Toyota ever be toppled? Only time will tell, but Toyota certainly doesn't think so.
"We have a GR Sport coming, we have the Rogue on-going, we have incredibly exciting things ongoing around that car. In the end, the market will determine it, but I expect that HiLux will be very strong ongoing."
