Kia's small SUV teased ahead of October launch: interior sketches show a tech-heavy cabin

Kia's new small SUV is inching closer to its mid-year reveal, with the brand today releasing the first sketches of a tech-focused interior. The as-yet unnamed SUV will hit international markets "in the second half of 2019", and it will be landing on Australian shores in October.

The small SUV is unashamedly targeted towards younger buyers, with Kia amping up its cabin technology, including "Sound-Mood Lighting", which debuted on the Soul. The idea is that the interior ambient lighting synchs with the stereo, vibing in time to whatever beats the driver wants to play. In the Soul, you could choose from six different effects.

Elsewhere, a sizeable 10.25-inch touchscreen with navigation dominates a rather chic-looking dash, while the cabin design itself is shooting for "chic" with metallic vents and quality (looking, at least) materials.

"We have focused on designing a cabin unlike any other in the small SUV segment, with a greater sense of depth and richness to the design," says Kia's head of styling, Byung Chul Juh.

"Our newest model will offer greater pleasure and satisfaction to our customers, with a premium-quality interior that benefits from sophisticated design details.”
