The Lamborghini Aventador SuperVeloce Jota has broken the production car lap record at the infamous Nurburgring Nordschleife before it has been officially unveiled.
The time of 6:44.97 bumps off the latest 'Green Hell' record, recently set by the Porsche 911 GT2 RS at 6:47.30, making the Aventador SVJ the fastest production vehicle in the world around the 20.6km long circuit.
It returns the record to Lamborghini, after its previous title of 6:52.01, set by the 2016 Huracan Performante, was knocked off in September 2017 by the GT2 RS.
Lamborghini claims the record was set thanks to the SVJ’s use of lightweight materials and improved aerodynamics. The car was heavily computer simulated to optimise its aerodynamic performance. It is touted to produce up to 600kW.
Scheduled for launch late this year, the SVJ is said to be stiffer and faster than the Aventador LP750-4 SV, and Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tires were used in the final ‘ring lap. The car was driven to success by in-house Lamborghini driver Marco Mapelli.
