The Porsche Macan has ditched petrol power and is going all-electric.
Porsche is initially launching with the Macan 4 and Macan Turbo electric variants expected to hit local roads before the end of the year.
Now the German brand has announced it will boost the Australian range further with two new variants: a new base version dubbed simply Porsche Macan and a 4S variant to sit in between the 4 and Turbo.
The range kicks off at $128,400 before on-road costs, which is a jump of more than $30,000 compared to the most affordable version of the outgoing petrol model.
It rises to $134,400 for the 4 and then up to $149,300 for the 4S before topping out at $184,400 for the Turbo.
The petrol-powered Macan is the brand's best seller by a wide margin, but the steep price rise might dent those sales.
Despite these high prices, Porsche has previously told CarsGuide the Macan electric has been well received by Aussie customers and has generated lots of interest before its arrival.
“Order intake is currently ahead of our initial expectations for the new all-electric Macan. Given it’s still a number of months before launch and no one has driven or seen the car in the flesh, the enquiry is up on both variants,” a company spokesperson told CarsGuide last week.
The addition of the cheaper model should help boost pre-orders, too.
The base electric Macan uses a single electric motor to drive the rear wheels, and produces 250kW and 563Nm. Drivers can access an extra 15kW with an overboost function.
Porsche claims it can sprint from 0-100km/h in 5.7 seconds on the way to a top speed of 220km/h.
All Macans are fitted with a giant 100kWh battery, which delivers a driving range of up to 654km in the base version.
The 4S boosts performance dramatically with dual electric motors to pump out 330kW - or 380kW during short periods of overboost - and 820Nm. This extra grunt dumps the 0-100km/h time to 4.1 seconds and ups the top speed to 240km/h.
Porsche claims the 4S can drive up to 619km on a single charge.
The new Macan (along with Audi's new Q6 e-tron) is built on the Volkswagen Group's new Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture that brings an 800-volt charging set-up, which enables a top DC charging rate of 270kW.
Porsche claims it can charge from 10 to 80 per cent in about 21 minutes.
A 12.6-inch curved digital driver display and a 10.9-inch digital multimedia screen is standard across the range.
4S customers can expect adaptive suspension, a Bose stereo and a panoramic sunroof among other features.
The two new variants are now available to order, with deliveries expected at the start of 2025.
