Mazda launches new rotary sports car for 100th anniversary
A four-rotor engine making 419kW is what is powering the Mazda RX-Vision GT3 Concept.
Mazda has launched its newest rotary sports car, but don’t go rushing to your nearest dealership with a cash deposit just yet.
Unfortunately, the brand’s latest is not the much-rumoured successor to the RX-7 of the past, but an exclusively digital vehicle, dubbed RX-Vision GT3 Concept, which is rolling out to Gran Turismo Sport on the PlayStation 4 today.
As part of the latest content updated, the RX-Vision GT3 Concept furthers the RX-Vision concept car from the 2015 Tokyo motor show with an ankle-destroying front splitter, side-exit exhaust, vented bonnet, large rear diffuser and prominent rear wing.
According to Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi, the RX-Vision GT3 Concept draws inspiration from the famed rotary-powered 787B with a four-rotor set-up, albeit paired with newer SkyActiv technologies.
As a result, the RX-Vision GT3 Concept punches out 419kW, and spreads its 1250kg weight 48:52 front and rear.
Competing in the ‘Gr 3’ class in-game, Mazda’s latest track-hungry weapon lines up against real and virtual cars like the Bugatti Veyron Vision Gran Turismo (VGT), Mercedes-AMG GT3, Toyota FT-1 VGT and Porsche 911 RSR.
Two special events – a time trail challenge and livery design contest – will also be held in-game to coincide with the release of the RX-Vision GT3 Concept and Mazda’s 100th birthday this year, with winners to receive a limited-edition sketch and miniature car.
