Meet the new tough-as-nails Toyota LandCruiser Prado Australia is set to miss out on as a Nissan Patrol Warrior rival

The Toyota LandCruiser Prado has been toughened up in every which way, with Japanese accessories company Modellista releasing a catalogue of upgrades ready to be fitted to what Japan calls the LandCruiser 250.

Modellista is a Toyota subsidiary – one of a labyrinth of smaller brands owned by the automotive giant – with the accessory outfitters often turning their attention to Toyota's 4WD portfolio.

And the Prado is no different, with Modellista developing a comprehensive "body kit" package for the Prado.

The kit includes a front bumper guard with a new metal underbody skid plate, new over-arch fenders, 'blade'-style headlights, a roof spoiler, new side mouldings and a rear bumper step guard, along with bespoke 20-inch alloys.

Inside, you can option an illuminated dash panel and LED foot lighting, while outdoor adventure types can choose an inflatable mattress to roll up in the boot.

The bad news? Despite being a Toyota company, we're unlikely to see the Modellista package offered in Australia, where customers will instead choose from a new five-strong model line-up spanning $72,500 to $99,990.

Still, our model is no capability slouch, thanks to full-time four-wheel drive with a low-range transfer case, a locking centre differential and a 3500kg braked towing capacity.

Under the bonnet, a familiar 2.8-litre turbo-diesel produces 150kW/500Nm, albeit this time paired with a ‘V-Active’ 48-volt system and an eight-speed automatic.

The Prado will launch in Australia in the coming months, with Toyota promising a H2 2024 debut for the hotly anticipated 4WD.
