Merc-AMG GLC 63 update revealed in New York

Mercedes-AMG has unveiled updated versions of its GLC SUV in standard and coupe bodystyles.

The V8-powered performance SUV has been tweaked in-line with the recently updated GLC range, including a refreshed appearance and new performance enhancements.

AMG-specific upgrades include an electronically-controlled locking differential as standard, a new set of AMG functions on the 'MBUX' multimedia system, 'AMG Dynamics' handling control system and a new ‘Slippery’ mode via the AMG dynamic drive mode selector.

Aesthetic upgrades include new head and tail-light designs, 90mm twin-tailpipes with a trapezoidal design, MBUX multimedia system hosted on a 10.25-inch touchscreen display, a new AMG steering wheel and seat upholstery, and the ‘Trailer Manoeuvring Assist’ system as standard.

Optionally, the GLC 63 SUV and Coupe can be had in a new colour – 'graphite grey metallic' as well as a new set of 21-inch alloy wheels.

‘S’ variants (likely to be the only version offered in Australia) now receive the ‘AMG Driver’s Package’, which raises the electronically-limited 250km/h top-speed to 270km/h, as standard.

Under the hood, the 4.0-litre twin-turbo petrol V8 produces 375kW/700Nm in 'S' guise, unchanged from the outgoing model.

The GLC 63 SUV and Coupe are all-wheel drive via the performance version of Mercedes-Benz’ 4Matic system and are only offered with an ‘AMG Speedshift’ nine-speed automatic transmission.

The outgoing GLC 63 S made headlines late last year when it claimed the SUV lap record at Germany’s famed Nurburgring Nordschleife with a lap time of 7:49.369. It de-throned the previous record holder, the Alfa-Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio.

Mercedes says it will confirm Australian pricing “in the coming months”.
