Mercedes-Benz A-Class sedan 2019 pricing and spec revealed

Mercedes-Benz Australia has announced pricing and spec for the A180 and A200 variants of the A-Class sedan range.

The two variants were expected, after the car’s launch in October of 2018, and the similar variant-by-variant roll-out of the A-Class hatchback late last year.

The A-Class sedan range kicks off with the entry-level $44,900 A180. The 180 is powered by a 1.3-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, producing 100kW/200Nm powering the front wheels only via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. It has a claimed/combined fuel consumption rating of 5.7L/100km.

The A-Class sedan and hatch are yet to receive an extra two high-spec variants later this year.

Standard spec are the dual MBUX 10.25 ‘widescreen cockpit’ screens, supporting Apple CarPlay and Android auto as well as built-in navigation and DAB+ digital radio, backed by a nine-speaker 225-watt audio system.

Other standard features include full ‘Artico’ faux-leather trim, 17-inch alloy wheels, a sports steering wheel with paddle-shifters, push-start ignition, climate control, auto-park assist, multi-drive mode selection, a reversing camera, as well as front and rear parking sensors.

On the safety front, the base 180 scores auto emergency braking (AEB – branded as ‘Active Brake Assist’), lane keep assist (LKAS) with lane departure warning (LDW), traffic sign recognition (TSR), and blind spot monitoring (BSM).

Stepping up to the $49,400 A200 will net a higher state of tune for the 1.3-litre four-cylinder engine, with outputs now set at 120kW/250Nm. Fuel consumption remains the same at 5.7L/100km.

The A200 adds 18-inch alloy wheels, tweaked exterior and interior trim items, a dual-exhaust system, four-way electrical adjustment for the driver’s seat, a rear centre armrest and a wireless smartphone charging bay.

All A-Classes score a fairly substantial multimedia and safety offering from the base 180 grade up.

Mercedes says two more A-Class sedan and hatch variants are yet to arrive, including the A250 (yes, the A250 hatchback will be re-launched) and the go-fast Mercedes-AMG A35, both of which are set for local on-sale “later this year”.

The A-Class sedan pricing was announced at the same time as the larger B-Class hatch with which it shares a platform.
