Mini John Cooper Works Clubman, Countryman 2019 revealed

Mini has revealed its updated John Cooper Works (JCW) Clubman and Countryman, which have received a significant lift to performance thanks to a new engine borrowed from the mechanically related BMW X2 M35i.

The high-performance pair will go on sale from July in Europe, however, Australian availability has yet to be confirmed. 

CarsGuide has contacted Mini for an update on its JCW offerings Down Under.

The flagship Countryman will sprint from zero to 100km/h in 5.1 seconds.

Powering both models, the 2.0-litre twin-turbocharged four-cylinder develops 228kW and 450Nm, which translates to a 56kW and 100Nm boost over the previous powerplant, making them the most powerful road-going Minis to date.

The new donk is exclusively matched with an eight-speed Steptronic automatic transmission with shift paddles and an All4 all-wheel-drive system, which actively distributes torque to the front and rear axles.

Mini says the JCW-fettled Clubman will sprint from zero to 100km/h in 4.9 seconds, while the high-riding Countryman will complete the run in 5.1s, meaning, the updated models are 1.4 and 1.5 seconds quicker than their respective predecessors.

The Mini's infotainment software has been updated with new features like Real Time Traffic Information (RRTI).

For the first time in a Mini, the JCW Countryman and Clubman have been electronically limited to 250km/h.

Also new is a sports exhaust system for improved sound and emissions, as well as uprated four-piston, fixed-calliper brakes grabbing 360mm discs at the front and 330mm rotors at the rear.

In the European market, the new JCW models will come standard with LED headlights, a 6.5-inch touchscreen, 18-inch JCW wheels as well a Comfort Plus pack, which adds Park Assist, a rearview camera, seat heating and folding mirrors.
