Ford Australia has culled its Focus small car line-up from six grades to just two, excluding the newly-introduced ST hot hatch pair.
With the Ambiente, Trend, Titanium hatchbacks gone, as well as all wagons, the 2021 Ford Focus line-up now kicks off at $30,990 before on-road costs for the ST-Line hatch or high-riding Active.
Ford Australia said the range rationalisation is due to shifting consumer preferences.
“The upgrades to the Focus line-up reflect feedback and the changing buying trends from Australian customers since we launched the all-new generation here in 2018,
it said.
“We’ve worked hard on a line-up that caters to specific tastes, and we’ve made these upgrades to ST-Line and Active in response.”
Though the ST-Line hatch is now $1500 pricier than before, it now features a multi-link rear suspension set-up as standard, eschewing the solid rear axle from before.
The Active grade is also $500 more expensive, but all 2021 Focus grades will come with the FordPass Connect modem as standard, enabling connected services such as remote lock/unlocking through a smartphone app.
Standard equipment is also boosted with the addition of front parking sensors, while carryover gear includes a reversing camera, 8.0-inch Sync3 multimedia touchscreen system with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, wireless charging and autonomous emergency braking.
ST-Line and Active grades also differ with the former featuring lowered suspension and red-stitched interior, while the latter sports a higher ride height for better ground clearance, and a Trail and Slippery drive mode.
Powering both is a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine, outputting 134kW/240Nm to the front axle via an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Fuel economy is pegged at 6.4 litres per 100km.
Two new exterior colours – ‘Race Red’ and ‘Fantastic Red’ – will also be offered, the latter of which is a $650 prestige paint option.
