New Kia Stinger 2021 detailed: Facelift for rear-wheel-drive flagship goes official

The facelifted Kia Stinger has finally been revealed after weeks of leaked images and teasers.

The refreshed model has seen revisions to its interior and exterior design, not to mention a range of new colours, features and technology.

The revamped Stinger will be on sale globally from the third quarter of 2020, and is expected here by the end of 2020.

According to Kia, the new-look Stinger has been enhanced to “amplify its gran turismo character, while improving cabin quality and giving owners more choice of colour and material”.

The front end sees new “multifaceted” reflector LED headlights with redesigned LED daytime running lights. There are new 18- and 19-inch wheel designs, while internationally the Stinger will be offered with a “Dark Package” for high-grade performance models, with gloss black exterior highlights. The US will get a “Black Package” with dark trim elements, including dark mirror caps, rear spoiler and wheels.

The rear end gets a new combination lamp that spans the width of the bootlid, enhancing the stance of the car. There are new tail-lights in a chequered flag grid pattern, too. Sporty Stingers will get bright silver muffler tips, set among a new rear diffuser.

Inside, the Stinger takes on a “higher-quality cabin”, with a new steering wheel, a 7.0-inch fully digital instrument cluster, a frameless rearview mirror, and in some grades there’s new contrast stitching. Nappa leather will be available in some markets, including black, red and beige colours.

There will be carbon-fibre trim or aluminium trim finishes depending on the grades - still to be confirmed for Australia - while the dash is adorned with a new 10.25-inch media screen with sat nav and smartphone mirroring tech. There’s also mood lighting, with 64 colours to choose from.

As for what’s powering the new-look Stinger? You’re going to have to wait and see. The company hasn’t revealed any engine, powertrain or performance specs just yet.
