New Volkswagen Amarok V6 580S 2020 pricing and specs: Powered-up plush ute set to tackle the Ford Ranger Raptor!

The VW Amarok V6 range has been added to once again, with a new flagship variant here in limited numbers.

The VW Amarok V6 range has been expanded once more, with the brand adding a new flagship limited edition model Amarok V6 580S.

Described by Volkswagen Australia as being the “most kitted-out Amarok yet”, the V6 580S model gains a number of additional extras over the already highly-specified Amarok V6 Ultimate model. Only 200 examples will be offered from June 2020, at a price-tag of $70,990 plus on-road costs.

If you hadn’t guessed already, the 580S represents the torque figure of the 3.0-litre turbo-diesel V6 engine (200kW on overboost, and 580Nm). It is available with an eight-speed automatic and 4Motion four-wheel drive with Torsen differential.

The exterior additions are plain to see: a contoured sailplane styling bar, roof mounted light bar (with two 86-watt LEDs), and a black roll cover for the tub. It rolls on 20-inch black alloy wheels with Bridgestone Dueler H/P Sport tyres, and has the range-topping bi-xenon headlights with LED daytime running lights.

There is the option of Carbon Steel Grey metallic paint with black door handles, or Candy White or Deep Black Pearl with colour-coded door handles. The Amarok V6 580S also has front and rear parking sensors, as well as a reversing camera.

Inside, the V6 580S features “Art Velour” seat trim, heated front seats, black headlining and pillar trims, dual-zone climate control and a 6.5-inch touchscreen media system with App Connect (Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring) as well as sat nav, CD player and Bluetooth connectivity.

It remains to be seen if this is one of the final Amarok special editions in the current-generation ute’s life-cycle, with an all-new model – co-developed with the next-generation Ford Ranger – in the works for a release in the next two years.

That new-gen Amarok model is expected to up the game for the brand when it comes to safety spec and tech: the current model still lacks any advanced driver safety aids like auto emergency braking (AEB), lane keeping, blind-spot monitoring or rear cross-traffic alert, and only has airbag protection for front-seat occupants.
