Next-generation RAM 2500 spotted in LA undergoing final evaluation alongside the new JL Jeep Wrangler.
The big news in LA last week might have been the public debut of the new (JL) Jeep Wrangler, but we also spotted what looks to be a heavily disguised 2019 RAM 2500 truck undergoing testing in central Los Angeles.
Travelling in convoy with a similarly disguised JL Wrangler Unlimited, both vehicles seemed to be undergoing final evaluation before their development programs are signed off.
Given RAM and Jeep are sister brands within the FCA stable, its no surprise to see the two mules together.
Both are also bound to be at similar stages of development given the RAM is expected to make its first undisguised appearance at the Detroit motor show in January – around six weeks after the Wrangler’s LA debut.
Given the extensive disguise, it’s difficult to spot any new RAM details, but the openings around the grille area seem to be missing the trademark Dodge/RAM vertical grille bar as we’ve seen with other recent spy shots.
This suggests FCA could be aiming to distance the RAM brand further from Dodge with a unique grille treatment, given RAM was separated from the Dodge nameplate in 2010.
The existing full-size RAM Trucks date back to 2009, and with the local ASV RAM operation barely two years old we expect the local distributor will be making plans to bring the new model to Australia shortly after its US on-sale date.
