Rumours of Schumacher death false
Social media was the source of a spreading rumour yesterday that Formula One legend Michael Schumacher had died. However officials this morning have confirmed the champion race driver is still alive and in the slow process of being awoken from an induced coma in the Grenoble hospital that has been treating him since his skiing accident.
A report in Le Figaro this morning said the rumours started on Twitter yesterday afternoon and were broadcast on German television. However the Grenoble hospital has categorically denied the reports as false.
The social media flurry came in the aftermath of a scandal with satirical magazine Titanic claiming to have the exclusive first photo of Schumacher since his accident -- but posting a photograph of fellow F1 legend Niki Lauda who suffered severe burns as a result of a crash during his racing career.
Inside the magazine were reportedly games that parents could use to explain Schumacher's skiing accident, and a jigsaw puzzle to piece his helmet back together, both of which have been slammed as being in extremely poor taste.
