SsangYong Musso XLV 2019 pricing and specs confirmed

The long-awaited long-wheelbase SsangYong Musso XLV 2019 range is now on sale in Australia, bringing a more practical offer to sit beside the regular version that launched in late 2018.

The Musso XLV - the suffix stands for ‘extra long vehicle’ (or exciting lifestyle vehicle!) - adds a premium over the shorter standard Musso, but also boasts a rare option for customers in the segment: the choice between leaf and coil rear suspension. 

The model line-up consists of three variants: the range-opening ELX variant, which is fitted with the work-focused leaf suspension setup; and the Ultimate and Ultimate Plus versions, both of which are sold with five-link coil spring rear-end setups.

All variants are four-wheel drive, and are powered by a retuned version of the 2.2-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel, which retains the same 133kW of power (at 4000rpm) but sees a five per cent torque bump, to 420Nm (1600-2600rpm). The ELX is available with a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic, with the remaining models being auto only.

Fuel use for the Musso XLV is rated at 8.2 litres per 100 kilometres for the six-speed manual version, while the auto models have claimed fuel economy of 8.9L/100km.

Musso XLV follows suit with the class-benchmark 3.5-tonne towing (with a 350kg downball load), and payload capacity is increased over the short-wheelbase version to a maximum 1025kg with leaf springs, down to 880kg for the top-spec model (still 30kg more than the existing best).

The XLVs fitted with leaf springs have a payload capacity of 1025kg.

The ELX model is priced at $33,990 drive-away (all models will attract a $1000 discount for ABN holders) for the manual and $35,990 drive-away for the automatic.

Standard equipment for the ELX includes 17-inch alloy wheels, smart key with push-button start, auto headlights, auto wipers, cruise control, an 8.0-inch touchscreen media system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, four-speaker stereo, Bluetooth phone and audio streaming, steering wheel-mounted audio controls, fabric seats, a limited slip differential and a safety suite that consists of a reversing camera, auto emergency braking (AEB) with lane departure warning, and six airbags.

The next model up the range is the Ultimate, which is auto only and costs $39,990 drive-away. It has 18-inch black alloy wheels with tyre pressure monitoring, LED daytime running lights, rear fog lights, front and rear parking sensors, heated and cooled fake leather front seats, a leather steering wheel, a six-speaker stereo, a 7.0-inch driver info display and additional safety gear in the form of blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert and lane change assist.

Topping the range is the Ultimate Plus, which is $43,990 drive-away. It adds HID headlights, speed sensitive steering, a 360-degree camera system, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, power front seat adjustment, and real leather seat trim.

Buyers who choose the Ultimate Plus variant also have the option of a sunroof (list: $2000) and 20-inch chrome alloy wheels (list: $2000), which can be bundled together for a package cost of $3000. 

All models in the SsangYong range are offered with a strong seven-year ownership plan, with an unlimited kilometre warranty, roadside assist and capped price servicing for the duration. Unlike some other brands, this plan is offered to commercial and fleet buyers, too.

The existing SsangYong Musso short-wheelbase versions continue unchanged, with the EX manual ($30,490), EX auto ($32,490), ELX auto ($35,990) and Ultimate ($39,990) all still on sale, and all of those prices are drive-away.
