This story got more eyeballs around the nation than any other published by CarsGuide this year.

Kia Australia boss Damien Meredith spoke with refreshing honesty about the influx of new Chinese brands and the effect it will have on the car companies we know and love.

Some won’t survive, but who will rise to the challenge?

02. Toyota has spoken: Diesel is done for in Australia as new petrol-powered Prado and HiLux loom

Have you started to see a trend yet? Diesel dual-cab utes, and Toyota, really tickle the fancy of the Aussie public.

03. The end of diesel dual-cab dominance: Forget the 2025 Toyota HiLux and Ford Ranger, Australia will soon have a new best-selling vehicle - and it's not a ute but the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid SUV

Utes have dominated the sales charts in Australia for the best part of a decade.

One super popular brand said it might force some to pack up and go.

05. Toyota's $162m V8 LandCruiser problem: Why the end of the V8 diesel LandCruiser 70 Series could end up costing a fortune

Before Toyota finally announced the end of the vaunted V8-powered 70-Series LandCruiser in July, speculation was rife that the beloved engine wasn’t long for this world.

Back in April, Toyota hadn’t been taking orders on V8-powered 70-Series for ages and the order bank of existing orders was extensive.

If they didn’t fulfil them they could leave some serious cash on the table, just how much is what got you all clicking.

06. When will petrol cars be banned in Australia and what will happen to all of the internal combustion engine vehicles after the EV transition is complete and will there come a time when it is illegal to drive a petrol car?

The federal government is ushering in new emissions regulations and several nations in Europe have given a date when new petrol and diesel cars will no longer be allowed to be sold.

We took a deep dive to find out if, or when, a similar move will happen in Oz.

07. Ute red flag! Are Australia's Ford Ranger, Toyota HiLux and Isuzu D-Max best-sellers creating a cash-stressed generation that's too American in values and taste?

Beefed up, burly utes are some of the best selling vehicles in the nation. But they are expensive.

We took a look at the top three sellers every five years back to 2003 to find out if Aussies are splashing too much cash on their favourite rides compared to years past adjusted for inflation.

The results were a bit of a shock.

Toyota has been maligned as a laggard in rolling out electric cars and focusing on hybrids, copping heat from Greenpeace and other environmental focused organisations.

Turns out Aussies, and the rest of the world, were generally on Toyota’s side with the brand selling hybrids by the boatload as other carmakers pivoted to follow their lead.

But the company won’t say “we told you so”, not directly anyway.
