Toyota GR Yaris sold out! Brand stops taking orders as pocket-rocket demand outstrips supply

The Toyota GR Yaris is sold out!

The Toyota GR Yaris is effectively sold out in Australia, with the brand putting a stop on new orders as it waits for supply to catch up with demand.

It's fair to say the GR Yaris has been something of a success story for Toyota, with fears over the price and the niche nature of the pocket rocket blown away by the huge demand for the vehicle.

In fact, the brand has received some 1700 orders for the GR Yaris so far - and about another 500 orders for the Rallye - and Toyota is now concerned about how long it will take to deliver all those vehicles.

As a result, it is placing what it calls a "temporary pause" on new orders, effective from July 1, to allow it to catch up. The brand is yet to confirm how long the sales stop will last, only saying that it "expects to announce a recommencement of order taking for this much loved vehicle soon" as it fights for more allocation.

It's understood the stop order applies to the GR Yaris, and not the Rallye, though wait times for both continue to grow.

"The GR Yaris is a fan favourite with enthusiasts and we are pleased that we have been able to ignite the performance-car market," says Toyota Australia's Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Sean Hanley.

"This vehicle continues to exceed expectations and we look forward to continuing our momentum with the GR brand in Australia."

The sales success comes as worries the vehicle might be too expensive are proven pretty comprehensively wrong.

The first 1000 examples of the GR Yaris were priced from $39,950 drive-away, while the next 100 units were $44,950 driveaway. It then moved to its RRP of $49,500 plus on-road costs.

The first 200 examples of Rallye were priced from $56,200 drive-away, before moving to its RRP of $54,500 plus on-road costs.
