In an ironic twist, a coolant leak and heat insulation are the source of the problem.
Volvo Car Australia has issued a safety recall for its model year 2016 XC90 SUV over a fault that could potentially cause a fire.
The fault affects 571 examples of Volvo XC90 petrol variants sold between 1st June 2015 to 29th April 2019 across the country.
Volvo says the problem originates as a coolant leakage, which causes a build-up of coolant on the catalytic converter, the heat insulation of which can become flammable.

Other recall newsXC90 owners should check if their vehicle is on the list of VINs located here, and if it is, book the vehicle in to have it fixed free-of-charge at any Volvo dealer, regardless of where the vehicle was purchased.
Volvo has been contacted for comment on whether any Australian-delivered cars have succumbed to the problem, and how long the fix should take.
The Volvo recall comes after yesterday’s recalls of the Mitsubishi Triton and Volkswagen Polo for unrelated reasons.
