VW Multivan 2021 renderings may reveal new-gen people mover design

The rendering by Kolesa.ru shows a narrow headlight signature and a new grille design.

Renderings published by Russian outfit Kolesa.ru may provide a glimpse at the next-generation ‘T7’ Volkswagen Multivan, long before its official reveal.

The illustrations, which show a significantly modernised people mover, were created using recent spy shots as a reference.

While Volkswagen is only beginning to roll out its current flock of T6.1 platform models, which includes the Caravelle, Multivan and Transporter, shoe-leather reports from Europe have revealed that testing for the T7 family is well underway.

The two renderings provided by Kolesa.ru show narrower headlights, a new grille and a more sculpted front lip.

Compact tail-lights and boxy lines are illustrated at the rear. Compact tail-lights and boxy lines are illustrated at the rear.

It looks to be shorter and boxier than the current model, and closer in appearance to a large SUV, thanks in part to multi-spoke alloy wheels.

Additionally, a new window is featured on each A-pillar, which would likely improve visibility.

Rumours suggest that the T7 range will move to Volkswagen’s MQB modular architecture, which would allow the vehicles to use mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains, as well as conventional petrol and diesel engines.

The move to a modular platform would also allow the next-generation vans to adopt the latest driver-assistance and multimedia technologies from VW’s passenger car fleet.

As Volkswagen only recently updated its people mover line-up, it is expected that the T7 range will not be unveiled until late next year.
