Toyota's iconic LandCruiser 70 Series is set to soldier on, with a new update set to arrive in November that will breath new - or at least ongoing - life into the ageing off-roader.
Toyota has today confirmed a 2022 update will arrive towards the end of this year, with the changes focusing on safety and payload updates, and all-but confirming that rumours of the V8-powered LandCruiser's demise have been exaggerated.
On the safety front, expect a new "pre-collision safety system" that includes AEB with pedestrian and cyclist detection, and which will be appliers to both wagon and pick-up variants of the 70 Series. Also new is a gross vehicle mass (GVM) upgrade, which has been increased to "more than 3500kg" which is for "supporting useful increases in payload".

Exactly how it has been done remains mysterious, with Toyota flagging "design refinements" that take the range into the medium goods category.
Unchanged is the 70 Series' 4.5-litre V8 turbo diesel good for 151kW and 430Nm.
"The upcoming changes are designed to ensure that the legendary LandCruiser 70 Series will continue to be available for the foreseeable future in the Australian market, where its popularity resulted in more than 13,900 sales last year," says Toyota Australia Vice President Sales, Marketing and Franchise Operations, Sean Hanley.
"The increase in GVM is sure to appeal to owners who use the 70 Series as a tool of trade or are seeking an even greater ability as a heavy duty recreational off roader.
"Combined with heavy-duty suspension and 3,500kg towing capacity, these upgrades will enhance the versatility and rugged reputation for this legendary vehicle."
