The arrival of the Ford Mustang in Australian showrooms is pretty exciting for all sorts of reasons, but the V8 manual GT coupe is arguably the most 'Mustang' of them all. Here are the top three features we like about it.
#1 Design depth
The new Mustang has all the classic Mustang design cues, but the sixth generation adds a big chunk of sophistication to its lines and proportions. Unlike some of the clumsy-looking Mustangs of the past, the new model has wheels that fill the wheelarches, a nice low ride height, and bodywork details that will keep surprising you for weeks.
#2 Near-analogue performance
Unlike most modern engines, the new Mustang's 306kW/530Nm, 5.0-litre V8 doesn't have a turbocharger or supercharger. This leaves it with a nice and linear power delivery, that's particularly enjoyable with the manual transmission. The available power is dependent on revs alone, so when you put your foot down, you always know what you're going to get.
#3 Just enough practicality
A Coupe is more about looks than anything, but the Mustang has a surprisingly useful boot, with split-folding rear seats, and a back seat that's just big enough for shorter adults. It's no SUV, but it will carry more than you think.
