You can't look away from the CarsGuide pages for more than a minute without another manufacturer chucking a new entrant into the small SUV category. This must annoy Honda because well over a decade ago, there already was a small SUV and it went by the name HR-V.
Ten years on and the segment has exploded but that first HR-V has only just begun to fade into history, such was its...er...individual styling. Nikki Cousins and Peter Anderson applied their own particular brand blowtorch to the HR-V (so did Sydney's weather) to find out if Editor Flynn's assertion about the HR-V is correct - that it's the best of its kind on sale today.
The particular car subjected to their grilling was Peter's long-termer, the $33,340 top-of-the-range VTi-L, crammed as it is with LED headlights, whopping great sunroof and leather interior, on top of the VTi-S's already generous inclusions of autonomous emergency braking and CVT automatic (which is standard across the range).
Is the interior so big Peter is still finding Nikki's hair-rollers on the floor? Did Nikki's three kids find it spacious and comfortable? Can Peter get over the fact it has a CVT?
