Options for replacing the engine on a '12 Ford Ranger that isn't covered by warranty?

Answered by CarsGuide 13 Oct 2017

I assume you bought it from a dealer, so try and negotiate some form of good will payment to at least cover part of the cost of replacing the engine.

Can I drive my '09 Ford Ranger 4x2 on the beach?

Answered by CarsGuide 29 Sep 2017

You could drive it on the beach, but it depends on the condition of the sand. If it’s hard packed you shouldn’t have any trouble, but if it’s soft you’re almost certain to get bogged. Best talk to the locals and get their opinion.

2010 Ford Ranger vs 2009 Mazda BT-50

Answered by CarsGuide 22 Sep 2017

The Ranger, and its cousin from Mazda, is a tough, durable and reliable truck. Neither have any major problems that should concern you. Buy on condition, look for one that has been used privately rather than for work, and make sure it’s been well serviced.

Ford denied my claim and isn't explaining why

Answered by CarsGuide 22 Sep 2017

The EGR cooler can develop a crack and the resultant loss of coolant could lead to a cracked cylinder head. I would recommend that you press Ford for a goodwill gesture to cover the cost of repairs. At the very least you deserve an explanation for the rejection of your claim. If ultimately Ford doesn’t come to the party with a satisfactory resolution you could go to the consumer affairs people (ACCC) and ask for their help.

Lots of play in 2015 Ford Ranger tow bar

Answered by CarsGuide 8 Sep 2017

No, we haven't had other complaints of this issue. There shouldn't be anything like that amount of movement, makes me wonder if the tongue is the correct one for the bar. Take the car to a towing place, like Hayman-Reece, and have them assess it.

2016 Ford Ranger shutting down while in motion

Answered by CarsGuide 21 Jul 2017

There is a glitch in the car’s computer system. Restarting it reboots the computer. If it’s not doing it when the car is at the dealer’s and nothing shows up on their diagnostic check it’s hard to trace and fix. It’s probably going to be a process of elimination until the cause is found.

Engine issues with 2016 Ford Ranger

Answered by CarsGuide 14 Jul 2017

Ford’s responsibility is to fix the problem. If you haven’t already contact Ford’s Customer Relationship Team (phone: 13 3673) and register your problem with them and give them the full picture of what’s happened to date. If you think the problem has gone beyond talking to Ford consider going to the Consumer Affairs people in Victoria.

2012 Ford Ranger engine failure

Answered by CarsGuide 24 Apr 2017

The dealer should have told you that the extended warranty is not a Ford product; that it's a warranty provided by an independent insurance company, in your case Allianz. Ford has no role to play when it comes to the Allianz warranty; you need to talk to Allianz and the dealer. You should also read the warranty to establish exactly what is covered and for how much. Aside from the warranty issue Ford has a responsibility under Australian consumer laws to cover the car, even if the new car warranty has expired. You could try for a good will or part payment of the repair costs from Ford.
