Beating the Prius to the punch but not the punchline, Honda’s groundbreaking wheel-fared ‘ZE1’ Insight sold a meagre 60 units in Australia.
Instead, it’s the forgettable 2010 Jazz-based hybrid that is more common. The second Insight could never match its Prius contemporary for fuel efficiency and didn’t lift sales in the way Honda may have hoped.
Toyota has now committed to a fully hybrid passenger car line-up in Australia while Honda is still looking to grow petrol-electric share.
The line-up currently starts at $8,470 for the Insight VTi Hybrid and ranges through to $16,170 for the range-topping Insight VTi-L Hybrid.
